According to history and culture Bad Doberan is a real highlight at the Baltic coast. It is not only that the grand duke Friedrich Franz I opened the first german seaside resort. The foundation of the Cistercian Monastery took place in early 1171 and gave countenance to this town, which is sustained even today! Until today it is the cultural centre, where people come for worship on Sunday or different events. The monastery asset and the sacral cathedral of Doberan, surrounded by parks, streams and gardens, impress the visitor by their ancient ambiance, their monumental dimension and give an unaltered charm to this coastal place.

Beside the cathedral also the horse- race-course and the traditional light railway belong to the historical attractions of Bad Doberan. The oldest horse-race-course of continental Europe, with its high classy horses, attracts many prominent visitors to attend and to watch the competitions. This is an absolutely “must” for horserace interested people!

One tour with the “Molli”-railway, through the small alleys of several picturesque coast sites, offers a pure nostalgic experience. Particularly from the terrace of our house intern café you enjoy a nice view on this unique attraction. From here you can watch it arriving and leaving while taking cake and coffee.

It is the excellent Location within a vivid Region that makes the health resort Bad Doberan attractive. The lively Rostock – biggest town of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania – is only 15 km away. With its cultural variety, historical old town, shopping malls and its broad culinary temptations, it is a real magnet for visitors.

To the coast it´s just a stone’s throw. The erstwhile fishermen town Warnemünde is worth to be visited in every season. Whether finely white sandy beach, whether ship excursions, sailing competitions or maritime treat this turbulent place satisfies every tourist desire. It is easily to arrive from Bad Doberan within 20 minutes by car. For people who prefer a more contemplative location, the gentrified Heiligendamm, - “the white town” - can be recommended. Like shiny pearls on a string, the white houses and villas extend at the shoreline. Heiligendamm, where the G8-summit conference was carried out in 2007, is only 6 kilometres away from Bad Doberan and can be arrived in a few minutes.

Besides there are many kilometres of beach, sometimes stony cliff coast, sometimes shallow sandy beach. Thanks to the well restored bicycle lanes, every site can easily be arrived by bike. Of course there is a multitude of other places and villages at the sea or interior that can be discove­red by car, by train, on foot and also by bike. Looking for silence and repose in the sea resort Bad Doberan, does not mean missing variety and diversity. Bad Doberan is the best starting point for daydreamers and night owls.
